{Willie Spears is} an excellent Motivational Consultant and Speaker for elementary children.  We ran a four week series on Motivation and Learning for selected third, fourth, and fifth grade boys.  It was amazing to watch them unfold during Mr. Spears’ presentations.  Our students were given tools to help improve their self esteem and set academic and/or life goals.  Several classroom teachers even noted attitude changes of several participants in two weeks!  Mr. Spears was able to “hook” the students and keep their attention and involvement throughout his thirty minute presentations.

This year was the first time I tried to run a program of this nature for students.  I was so impressed with the outcome that I am planning to have the program again earlier in the school year.  I hope you have the opportunity to work with Mr. Spears. Feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions. Listed below are several statements from students about Mr. Spears.

“Mr. Spears, I learned in you class that everybody is not your friend.  Friends can also get you in trouble. Thank you, Mr. Spears, for teaching our class”N. B. “I like to go to Mr. Spears because he is funny and cool to hang around with.  He taught us many different things like what to do and what not to do.  I really wish that he could come while we’re in 6th grade.”K. L. “Mr. Spears is a smart man and he helped us be smarter. He showed us the way to success”.F. A.

Sincerely,

 Dr. Sheila E. Sapp

Elementary School Principal

You probably don't remember me, but we met last Spring semester when you came in to talk to the team. Last year during your speech you grabbed my attention with your words of choice "BRING IT BACK FELLAS!!!"Being a city boy from New Jersey, and listening to your words made me feel like you walked in the shoes I'm running in now. I was really moved and wanted to let you know I kept your words with me this past season as we fought our way back into the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row. And I just wanted to thank you.

Jahmar   New Jersey

Thank you sooo much for what you did at our church. I don't get called beautiful a lot and it meant so much to me to have someone say that I was.
I was crying because I felt my friends were laughing at me and because I felt a sense of something else, yeah I'm a Christian. I was already a Christian, but I haven't been acting right at all. I was scared to raise my hand when you were asking the questions like "do you know any body your age that drinks or smokes or those other things.."
I know it's between me and God...but I gotta' straighten up and I'm really trying to do that. It's sooo hard though and it's just because of peer pressure.
Anyways I'm rambling on.
I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you SO much because you made me realize what I need to do and what goals I need to set to become a better Christian and become right with God. I know where I'm going but I'm going to start doing the right thing so in the end I will get that chance to be in the right place.

We can't thank you enough for presenting to our Upward Bound High School students last summer. I was just contemplating on who we could bring in this summer that would touch our students the way that you did. Your topics were heartfelt, intense, factual, and humorous at times. You have a special gift for presenting challenging subjects of poignant interest to our youth and adults alike. As most people know, this is not an easy task. I would highly recommend your presentation to any High School Upward Bound program across the nation. Upward Bound programs are always looking for creative ways to enlighten our youth and help prepare them for college. In my books...you are definitely the ticket! We need more people with your energy and enthusiasm for tackling life's dilemmas. You are a talented speaker that made a positive and powerful impact on our group. In fact, I heard one person walk away from your session by saying, "We all need a little Willie Spears in our life everyday!" I couldn't agree more. You were amazing.

Wow! I have had the blessings of hearing you speak 3 times and you truely have been blessed with a God given gift and are using it to make a change. What you are doing is so awesome! Last week I actually had three fights in my room, Monday, Wednesday and Friday and to hear you speak on Saturday I found myself asking the question again - what can I do to reach these students - how can I reach these students. Just when I think I am getting thru, that other personality comes out again. Sometimes I ask, why me Lord and then find myself saying Thank you Lord for these blessings. Good and bad, I know God has placed me with these kids and I pray everyday for them and know that thru God and his Devine Intervention that change will happen. I cannot nor do I even try to teach without God on my side. Some days are good and some days are bad but it is well worth it on those good days when I see that glimmer of hope in their eyes. It is hard when I see their pain and the anger (wow), such anger. I didn't mean to go on but I just want you to know that hearing you again with "Reaching the Unreachable". It really spoke to me. You said you could e-mail me the power point since towards the end we didn't quite finish and I really wanted the author's names and books. I loved the question to ask yourself as well.
Continue your awesome work and I feel so blessed to be a part of your visits here. I know you have and will continue to reach many people thru your speaking. I look forward to hearing from you soon and re-looking at that power point presentation. Once again thank you for the words of wisdom. I am looking forward to finding some time to sit back and enjoy reading your books.

I wanted to take a minute to thank you for coming back to the Bangin' Bay and visiting my school, Jinks. Usually assemblies are lame but you're a wonderful motivational speaker and I actually enjoyed myself. You inspired me in many ways. You made me think twice about my choices, my friends, and the way I carry myself. Again thank you for your time and keep up the great work. You are making a difference.

You just got done talkin to us at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Crestview. You did great. I just wanted to thank you for coming, your message was a great one and made me realize that I need to step up and become a rebel for Christ. I am recently saved so this whole Christian thing is new to me, but since it has happened I couldn't be any happier. And its because of people like you that makes it such a great experience. For you to preech God's word the way you do really helps us understand things alot better. you do a wonderful job. Thanx again

I have a text that I will never erase! My 10 year old son texted me and said, "I just gave my life to Jesus and "I am happy I did it ". He took his bibles to school and gave them to his friends and texted his unsaved dad and asked if he had Jesus. He is full of excitement.
Thank you so much for what you do for the kids in Camden County! You have sown seeds in my boys and I want to thank you for that.
I pray they continue to grow into Godly men and reach others for his name sake.
Thank you again!
Angela

It was a blessing to hear you speak today to the football players and girl's basketball team. Your honesty, openness, and frankness in your conversation made your speech easy to listen to and digest.

Your message of being the "only one" was poignant. You spoke more about being the only team to be champions in the end, but I related it personally to my relationship with my husband. So many women don't ever expect to be the "only one" for their mates, but I feel God has brought me to this point in my life to expect and accept no less. I will never say what my husband will or will not do, but I can say my expectations for him and our relationship will never change.

God has saved me and delivered me from a guileless life of sin and I know he expects more of me. Please continue to encourage our young people to take a stand for Jesus Christ.

I wanted to let you know that the October 31st event was awesome. I have heard many speakers and was curious as to how you were going to deliver your message. It was great! I have been a youth pastor for 17 years and in that time have served many youth. I also wanted to let you know that I was the one that was videoing you that day. I also compiled the graphics for the page (that was) on your opening web page.

I saw two girls from my 10am MWF class last night (Tuesday). They had already read Keisha's Dilemma and were upset that the Ultimate Dilemma was not in stock last night. They read the book in the first two days of class! The kicker is the literature critique over your book is due October 1st. They went on and on about how much they loved your book and how it relates to them. You are getting students to want to read! You are like the JK Rowling of my classes. I cannot thank you enough. Please keep writing. I knew I had a good idea adding your books. Not a single person has complained yet about having to buy your extra books.... That in itself is a miracle.

I was sitting here looking at you speak to the RockYouth Group on T.V.  You have such a powerful ministry and such a passion for the Word. I know it was the Lord that told me to turn to this station because you were speaking about Romans 12:2, one of my favorite scriptures! You encouraged me this evening and I wanted to encourage you to continue to preach the Word without compromise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Willie Spears has contributed over 20 hours of service through motivational speaking to our program during the 2007-2008 school year. He has spoken in schools, community venues and Juvenile Justice Facilities within our five-county area. Mr. Spears offered inspiration through realism, humor and heart felt anecdotes. Our student and community members gave an overwhelming positive response to his presentations. Teens Above the Influence is grateful to have partnered with Mr. Spears and we look forward to future opportunities.

Mr. Spears, all I can say is , Wow and Awesome".  You were so good--maybe I should say too good!  I gave your information to my principal and suggested you for our motivational speaker before FCAT. Thanks so very much.

On behalf of Bay Detention Center and Bay District Schools, I personally, would like

to THANK YOU for speaking to our Juveniles today.  We have had several speakers come through our facility and only a few have been able to keep the youths attention for

a short span.  However, you, after 2 hours of what seemed like 30 minutes, you had

their undivided attention and keep them interested.  The whole staff as well as

teachers were amazed at the youths interest in you. You were "real" and could

related with them.  That is what they need and long for.  I am so thankful that God

has given you a passion for young people.  We look forward to you visiting our

facility again sometime soon.  We appreciate the book you donated to our library.  I

hope that God will continue to bless you and your family, as I will continue to keep

you in my prayers.

Willie Spears is an incredibly dynamic young man with such a vision to inspire students.  The story of his own motivation certainly piques one’s interest and truly encourages greatness in those who hear it.  Willie exemplifies Ranger Spirit and Northwestern Oklahoma State University is proud to call him a Ranger.

Hey this is Roy Burris, Joel Burris father. Joel was very impressed with the speech you gave to the nwosu football team a while back. My son said the information you gave really helped the team. I talked to coach Barefield about you and he was very impressed.

THE BOOK IS HOT!!
Tim is still reading the book. One of my female students read the book in four class
periods. Two of my male students asked to read your book today. This is a book that
will stay in circulation.
You've really been able to tap into the mind of the adolescent. I mean, the boys
were excited to check out the extra copies of the book that I bought.
In my first period class, I used you as the subject to teach figurative language.
This is the paragraph we came up with :
Willie Spears is as funny as Steve Harvey and Tyler Perry together. (Simile)
His humor Hershey chocolate sweet with a twist of nutty truth. (Metaphor)
Spears is really a smart turkey. (Oxymoron)
He made me laugh so hard that my toenails hurt.
Thank you so much for answering the call. You've given me a way to reach students
that's exciting!!

I want you to know that you did a phenomenal job speaking to my class.  You have the perfect mix of humor and analogies that these students could really relate to.  The cell phone analogy was dead on with students these days.  I feel that you really helped things click with them.  I have been struggling with some of my students who don’t see the importance of getting involved outside of the classroom.  I really feel that you have opened their eyes to the importance of extending themselves.  I can’t wait to visit with them tomorrow to see what they took from your speaking engagement.  Again thanks for giving back to Northwestern.  I hope you will plan to visit again sometime soon and speak in my future classes.  We have approximately 14 Ranger Connection classes in the fall.  I feel they would all benefit from your experience and wisdom.  Thanks again!

If you don’t mind I would like to forward a couple of the reports I collected from the Keisha’s Dilemma reading assignment. If this doesn’t prove you are reaching students, I don’t know what can. Thank you as a teacher and as someone who deeply cares for students too. Your book opened up these students and I would never have known what all they had been through if not for this book.  Also when the sequel is released let me know. I would love to add that to the curriculum as well.

Comments from Baccalaureate Service

Coach Spears,

I just had to email you about your speech at the Baccalaureate service on Wednesday. My daughter is a graduating senior and just loved what you talked about. She said that you were “Real” and that you talked about everything they needed to hear. She wished that you were the one to be speaking at tonight’s graduation because she feels like everyone should hear what you have to say. My husband and I thought you “hit the nail on the head” with your advice and the examples that you gave. It was not only inspirational for the seniors, but for the parents as well. Thank you for being so open and honest and for letting your Father lead the way. We have been on several mission trips with our church, but the message you delivered this week was a true God send! We are all so blessed for having been there.

Gwen Knight

Coach Spears,

My son is a senior and we attended Baccalaureate last night.  I want to thank you for the message that you gave the graduates last night.  It was very inspiring and gave them “real” stuff to think about.  Jacob, and my youngest son, Jeremy (10th grade) talked all the way home about different things that you said.  Thanks so much!

Cathy
